UHS honors volunteers for service with a smile

UHS will mark National Volunteer Week, April 15 to 21, by honoring the women, men and teenagers who give of their time as healthcare volunteers during the year.

UHS annually celebrates the members of its team who provide selfless, compassionate service to benefit hospital patients and nursing home residents.
The volunteers come from an impressive array of backgrounds and work in nearly every department at the hospitals and in the senior living areas.
During the past year, 473 volunteers gave 57,272 hours of service throughout UHS Binghamton General Hospital, UHS Wilson Medical Center and UHS Senior Living at Ideal.

With the theme of "Caring Together Touching Lives Forever," the volunteers will be honored at a special recognition banquet, on Wednesday, April 18, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Traditions at the Glen.

At UHS Delaware Valley Hospital, 23 volunteers turned in 2,332 hours of service. They will be honored on April 18 at the hospital's annual appreciation luncheon. The Delaware Valley Hospital Volunteers donated $ 9,600 in 2017 for the purchase of new TVs throughout the hospital, books for pediatric patients and new holiday decorations.

At UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital, a volunteer recognition luncheon will be held on Wednesday, May 23, at the Canasawacta Country Club. During 2017, 102 volunteers provided 14, 800 hours of service.

Each interaction a volunteer has with a patient, visitor or staff member represents a commitment to brightening the lives of others.

Note:  Media coverage of the volunteer recognition luncheon  is invited.
