Clinical Research
In 2001 United Medical Associates along with Regional Clinical Research formed a unique alliance and produced a Research Department consisting of dedicated Physicians and a motivated, highly trained management staff.

Goals of the Research Department
The overall goal of the UMA Research Department is to bring the benefits of the newest medical research to patients and their physicians in the Binghamton area, and to provide a medical research focus that is both clinical and educational.

Clinical Trials and Outreach Efforts
The Research Department is involved in phase II, III, and IV clinical trials in human participants.  The clinical testing of experimental drugs is typically performed in three phases, each successive phase involving a larger number of people.  Once the Food and Drug Administration has granted a New Drug Approval (NDA), pharmaceutical companies also conduct post marketing or late phase three/four studies.

Future Growth Areas
Potential areas of growth for UMA Research Department include:

  • adding nurse study coordinators to additional UMA sites
  • providing community awareness
  • collaborating with local businesses, health department, physicians and  universities.
All of these efforts are designed to improve the treatment of disease in area patients.
