The Internal Medicine Residency Program at Wilson Medical Center offers you an outstanding environment in which to continue your training in a patient centered, primary care setting.  The program has been in existence for over 50 years, so you know you will find a stable residency program.

  • No competing residencies give you ample time to learn procedures and gain experience.
  • Choose the Primary Care or hospitalist track and tailor the program to fit your professional goals.
  • A strong balance between hands-on clinical and academic training, including research opportunities and a regular schedule of conferences and grand rounds
  • A team approach to medical floors offers an outstanding environment for learning and practice.
  • Ambulatory training provided at Wilson Square Clinic, a modern, state-of-the-art facility.
  • Gain competency performing board-required procedures including bone marrow aspirations, EKG readings, thoracentesis, intravenous acquisition and paracentesis.
  • Special elective rotations in hospitalist medicine, women's health, indigent care, geriatrics, ambulatory internal medicine, addiction medicine, HIV care and critical care.
  • Flexible elective scheduling in the PGY-3 year lets you explore areas of special interest.
  • A socioeconomically, ethnically and culturally diverse patient population will broaden your scope of patient care and expose you to a wide range of clinical pathology.
  • Moonlighting opportunities available in the third year of training.
  • Comprehensive board certification preparation
  • A wide range of full-time, part-time and volunteer faculty from practices throughout the area.
  • All residents receive appointments as Clinical Assistant Instructors with Upstate Medical University, creating a strong affiliation with a top University Medical Center.
  • Our graduates have been successful in obtaining fellowships such as:  Hematology/Oncology, Critical Care, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Cardiology, etc.
