Message from James Jewell, MD, Internal Medicine Program Director
“Welcome to the IM Residency website. Our goal is to show you how well
balanced and supportive our program is with a very diverse patient population
and a flexible curriculum. You will become skilled in both outpatient and
inpatient medicine as well as critical care. There are students from many
allopathic and osteopathic medical schools rotating at Wilson who add to the
team effort and challenge your teaching skills. Our system depends on the
resident to promote timely and contemporary patient care, manage resources and
work with a wide variety of staff on many other clinical, social and ethical
issues. We are very flexible in allowing the medical resident to choose
the type of elective rotation they need for their career goals. We have
options for ambulatory care, Hospitalist Medicine, or the subspecialties.
Occupational Medicine, Sports Medicine, and Geriatrics are other developing
areas.
Our largest growing area is Hospitalist Medicine. Many of our recent
graduates have joined our team and we have integrated their services into our
inpatient training as well. Special rotations with their team are available that
include medical consultations and perioperative management.
By completing your residency with us, you will be well prepared for wherever
your career takes you, be it practice, Hospitalist Medicine, or subspecialty
training. I look forward to the chance to work with you.”
