Biography

Stanley Hunter, MD, CAQSM joined the UHS team in 2016. He studied mechanical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and started a software company for the analysis of workout and exercise performance before his interests in health and fitness led him to medical school. After graduating from Upstate Medical University he completed a general surgery internship and a family medicine residency at the University of Vermont, then a fellowship in sports medicine at Summa Health System in Akron, OH. He has covered sports at all levels, from youth to NCAA to professional, including baseball in the Oakland A's and Cleveland Indians' systems. He is currently a team physician for the Binghamton University Bearcats and numerous local high schools. (Continued below)

Biography (Continued)

Dr. Hunter's interests include the full breadth of sports medicine, with particular interests in non­surgical orthopedics, concussions, the strength athlete, medical issues surrounding performance enhancing drugs, exercise physiology, and evolutionary biomechanics. He regularly incorporates diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound-guided procedures into his practice, including PRP and autologous blood  injections. He also enjoys teaching and works with fellows, residents, and medical students. He is Co-Director for the UHS Sports Medicine Fellowship and an associate clinical professor at SUNY Upstate Medical University, as well as Co -Director of the UHS Concussion Care Center. He is a third degree black belt in Chung Do Kwan Korean Karate and in his free time trains in various strength sports including powerlifting and old-fashioned strongman.
