Maternity

Newborn Family Center

Births take place in the Newborn Family Center at Chenango Memorial Hospital.  The center has labor/delivery/postpartum/recovery rooms, a whirlpool bath to ease labor, nursery, and a kitchen for laboring patients.  The staff of the newborn Family Center and Women’s Health Center team work together to provide a secure and safe environment in which the birth process becomes a family event.

Breastfeeding Classes

New or retuning mothers will benefit from this brief overview of breastfeeding your new infant.  This class is taught to help prepare mothers for the challenges and rewards of breastfeeding.  Tips, methods, dos and don’ts will be covered by a registered nurse.  Class is also open to mothers not birthing at Chenango Memorial.  The class is usually held on the 4th Wednesday of every month, 7pm, in the Newborn Family Center.  To register, please call 337-4145.

Childbirth Classes

Let’s get ready to have a baby!  This class is an in-depth trip through the entire birthing process.  This class includes different methods, positions, techniques, and possibilities during labor.  Parents often feel more informed and confident after going through this series of casual classes.  Preparing yourself, your partner, and your family is a little easier when you have an idea of what to expect.

There are 4 classes in this program, scheduled over 4 consecutive Monday evenings from 6:30 – 8:30pm.  This class takes place in the Basement Conference Room on Chenango Memorial Hospital’s lower level. Registration is required.  Please call 337-4145 for more information or to register.

Sibling Classes

There are about to be many changes in your house with the arrival of a new sibling.  This class is specifically for that future big brother or sister.  A little special time with them before the birth will help them adjust and prepare for the new role they are about to have placed upon them.  This family atmosphere is always a favorite among parents and the hands-on classes are scheduled on an as needed basis, 7-9pm, in the hospital’s Private Dining Room.  For information call 337-4145.
