Orthopedics

Orthopedics is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system.  This includes bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves.  A large part of an orthopedic practice is treating victims of trauma, when people get hurt because of an accident or fall, or the result of disease process such as joint deterioration caused by arthritis.

The orthopedic surgeons on staff at Chenango Memorial practice general orthopedics.  They mostly see patients with ailments which affect their knees, ankles, shoulders, and hips.  One of the surgeons has specialized training in pediatric orthopedics and a special interest in joint replacement of hips and knees, especially for arthritis patients. The surgeons treat many sports-related injuries, managing them surgically and non-surgically, depending on the individual need.  They perform arthroscopic procedures on knees and shoulders, accomplish ACL reconstruction, and carry out fracture care as well.
