Participating in an inpatient clinical trial
When admitted to Wilson Medical Center or Binghamton General Hospital,
you can request that the research department be notified to determine if there
are any current or upcoming trials in which you would be eligible to
participate. In addition, the staff at the hospital may approach you to
determine if you would be willing to speak to the research staff regarding a
study.
NO ONE FROM THE RESEARCH DEPARTMENT WILL APPROACH YOU WITHOUT YOUR PRIOR
PERMISSION.
Don't overlook outpatient studies
You may also contact the OTC office to determine if there are any outpatient
studies for which you might be eligible.
Additionally, we offer clinical studies through our primary care group practice,
United Medical Associates and its special program, Regional Clinical Research,
Inc, is a multi specialty research organization with 150 affiliated Physicians.

What to expect once you have agreed to participate in a study
A research nurse will review the clinical study with you, will visit you to discuss the clinical study. You will be asked to review and sign an Informed Consent Form, details the clinical study. This form includes information regarding the study, including what is being studied, benefits and risks of participation, possible side effects, any compensation you may receive, and contact numbers if you have any questions regarding the study.
During the course of the study, the research nurses will explain any procedures relating to the clinical trial to you. They will have frequent communication with you, and are available to you at any time to answer your questions.
Following your hospitalization, you will be informed of any further visits that will occur.
