CyberKnife
The CyberKnife uses advanced image-guided technology
to deliver extremely accurate high-energy radiation treatments
– without the use of an invasive fixed frame.
Patients who are unable to undergo traditional open surgical
procedures and those who require additional surgery
in previously irradiated sites will benefit from the
CyberKnife system. Learn More
IMRT Targets Cancer Cells and Minimizes Side Effects Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) can effectively pinpoint and destroy
cancer cells while minimizing the radiation delivered to surrounding tissue and
lowering the risks of side effects. IMRT creates computer-generated 3-D images
so that radiation treatments can precisely match the shape and depth of the
tumor. A linear accelerator delivers the radiation in thousands of tiny beams
that enter the body from various angles to pinpoint the tumor. Our radiation
oncologists use IMRT primarily on prostate cancer patients. In the future, IMRT
will be used to treat patients with brain and spinal cord tumors, cancer of the
head and neck, and breast cancer. The exactness of the radiation will allow
physicians to treat tumors located near delicate organs such as the eye and
spinal cord.
