Telephone and Television
 

ACTIVATING YOUR TELEVISION:
Please call ext. 6428 to speak to a Customer Service Representative 24 hours/day, 7days/week.

Rooms are equipped with telephones and you can easily make:
Local calls by first dialing "9" and the number.
Long Distance calls, Dial 9 for an outside line; then dial 0 for the Spectra Corp. operator.
You will need to transfer the charges to your home phone, reverse the charge to the number being dialed or provide a credit card number. CALLS CANNOT BE BILLED TO YOUR EXTENSION.
For problems with your telephone, please contact the nursing staff on your unit.

News and entertainment are available at your fingertips with remote-control, cable, color television in your room.

While you enjoy television programming, please remember to respect the rights of others and keep the volume low.

Inpatient stays for more than 24 hours, a $7.00 daily fee will be charged, not to exceed $35.00 in a 30 day period. This is an all inclusive charge for both television and telephone.

Pediatric patient charges will be charged $7.00 daily not to exceed $21.00 in a 30 day period.

After discharge, the above charges will appear directly on your home telephone bill as “Hosp Tel Chg”. VISA, Mastercard and Discover Cards are also accepted.

Federal law prohibits United Health Services Hospitals from including the television and telephone charges into your daily room rate.

Telecommunication Devices
Telecommunications devices (TTY), amplified phone receivers, and a television telecaptioner device (TTD) for closed captioned television viewing are available for the hearing-impaired free of charge. For these services, ask your nurse or call Patient Relations at (607)763-6777.

Electrical Appliances
For your safety, only battery-operated items such as razors and cassette players are allowed in United Health Services Hospitals facilities. Under no circumstances will items containing open heating elements, such as hair dryers or curling irons be allowed.

Mail and Flowers
All mail and flowers sent to you will be delivered to your room. However, no flowers or plants are allowed in the Intensive Care of Coronary Care units. Mail received after you are discharged will be forwarded to your home address.

Reading Material
A newspaper carrier will stop at your door each morning if you wish to purchase the local newspaper. Volunteers may visit your room with books and magazines that you can borrow from the patient library at no charge.

Valuables
Necessary, personal items from home can make your hospital stay more comfortable. However, the hospital cannot assume responsibility for valuables kept in your room, lost or broken dentures, eyeglasses, hearing aids, etc., unless the hospital is clearly responsible for the damage. For example, the replacement of dentures, eyeglasses, and hearing aids that are lost due to being placed on a food tray, lost in the bed linens, or inadvertently placed in the trash are the responsibility of the patient. Please do not bring checks, credit cards, jewelry or large amounts of cash to the hospital. When necessary, the cashier’s office will hold, for safekeeping, any valuables not exceeding $500. Your nurse can arrange this for you.

Smoke-Free Environment
For your good health, United Health Services Hospitals maintains a clean air environment. Therefore, smoking is not permitted in the hospital. This ban includes patient rooms, entrance ways, coffee shops, lobbies, lounges, corridors and lavatories. It does not include the parking lot and areas outside the hospital. If you want to quit smoking while you are a patient in the hospital, United Health Services Hospitals offers a Nicotine Consultation Service at no charge. Specially trained counselors in nicotine addiction can advise you and your physician on the best way to treat your smoking withdrawal symptoms. Talk to your primary nurse or physician if you need a referral.

Hearing Impaired Services
A Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD) is available at no charge for patients. The hospital can also make the following available to patients at no charge: telephones compatible with hearing aids; telephones with amplified headsets; telecaptioning for TV; and assistive listening devices. Call (607)762-2273 to request any of these items.

Interpreters
United Health Services Hospitals will provide interpreters for non-English speaking patients and families. A sign language interpreter may also be available if needed. If you need an interpreter, contact (607)762-2273.

Banking
A Binghamton Savings Bank Machine Teller is located on the first floor of the hospital for patient, visitor and staff convenience.

Binghamton Savings Bank customers can access all Machine Teller services using their personal identification number (PIN).

Major bank cards are also accepted.
