Chuck Kelly waits for his turn in the 17th Annual Chenango Memorial Hospital Foundation Golf Tournament. Kelly’s team won the tournament with a 13 under par 58. Additional team members were Kevin Decker, Jacob Kelly and Stu Hughes. Thirty-six teams participated in the event that raised nearly $36,000.

A full complement of 36 teams participated in UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital Foundation’s 17th annual golf tournament and picnic May 30th  at the Canasawacta Country Club. “Several new teams and corporate sponsors joined the tournament this year as well as businesses that increased their support,” said Deb Cassavaugh, Executive Director of the CMH Foundation.

The team sponsored by Kelly Asphalt Maintenance consisting of Chuck Kelly, Kevin Decker, Jacob Kelly and Stu Hughes won the tournament with a 58 in the captain and crew format. Second place and one shot behind at 59 went to Dave Burrell, Matt Burrell, Bryan Smith and Glenn Webb of Burrell’s Excavating.

Other tournament winners included Tracy Lemczak and Ken Entennman, Closest to the Pin, at 8’4” and 1’2” respectively on Hole #2; Sharon Miles and Jacob Kelly were the longest drive winners on Hole #6. The Foundation also held a special drawing for a spot in the Dick’s Pro Am compliments of UHS. Dave Shull won the coveted spot and will golf with the pros at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open in August.

Perhaps the highlight of the tournament was the golf cannon designed and built by the tournament’s co-chair Garry Root. The cannon was positioned on Hole #17 and teams had an opportunity to purchase chances to shoot a ball to the green. “It was extremely popular and generated a lot of interest,” said Root.

“We really appreciate all the community members and business sponsors, many of whom increased their support this year. That support made it a very successful tournament,” said Cassavaugh. Major sponsors were NBT, Crothall, UHS, Bates Troy, Preferred Mutual Insurance Company, Fust Charles & Chambers LLP, Siemens, Morrison Management Specialists, Rentals to Go, Norwich – An Alvogen Co., Louis N. Picciano & Sons, Inc., Chianis & Anderson Architects, Norwich Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, New York Central Mutual and The Canasawacta Country Club. After expenses, it is anticipated the event will clear over $21,000.

The hospital's foundation seeks and manages public and private funds from individuals, foundations, corporations, civic organizations and governmental agencies to support UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital activities. For more information call 607-337-4510 or e-mail cmh_foundation@uhs.org.
