New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is planning to declare June 6 Sock Out Cancer Day in New York State, with pairs of the colorful socks given to members of the New York State Assembly.

The Rumble Ponies will face Richmond at home June 6.

Cancer creates an enormous strain on a family, both emotionally and financially. The purpose of Sock Out Cancer is to raise funds to ensure that families affected by cancer can focus on supporting their loved one instead of struggling to pay bills or deal with ordinary living expenses.

Sock Out Cancer assists families who have been referred by case workers at the region’s two largest cancer centers: Lourdes and UHS. Services are administered by the two foundations, which have jointly established guidelines to ensure that all families assisted will be treated fairly and equitably.

Monetary help may come in the form of rent or mortgage assistance, payments for utility bills, gift cards to gas stations and grocery stores, and similar assistance as required.
