UHS Delaware Valley Hospital is pleased to announce that Dr. Matilda Yetunde Akinyemi, MD, MS, and Keyoor Patel, DO, of the UHS Cardiology group have joined its medical staff.

Both doctors recently joined Alon Yarkoni, MD, FACC; Kenneth T. Wong, MD; and M. Bashar Yousuf, MD, in providing care at UHS’ Wilson Square office and performing cardiovascular procedures at UHS Wilson Medical Center.

Dr. Akinyemi recently completed a general cardiology fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.  The fellowship included using advanced procedures and techniques covering the full spectrum of clinical cardiology.  

She is a graduate of Penn State University, has a master's with honors from Adelphi University and a medical degree with honors from the Ross University School of Medicine, where she was honored as outstanding medical student of the year in 2006.  

Dr. Akinyemi completed an internship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where she also completed a residency in internal medicine and was honored as best resident in 2009.  She has certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine and the National Board of Echocardiography.

Dr. Patel comes to UHS from Southside Hospital in Bayshore, N.Y., where he worked as a cardiology consultant following a cardiology fellowship at the Milwaukee Heart Institute, Aurora Sinai, St. Luke’s Medical Centers, Milwaukee.

A graduate of the New College of Florida, Sarasota, he received his doctorate from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, followed by an internship at Long Beach Medical Center in Long Beach, N.Y, and an internal medicine residency at North Shore University Hospital at Manhasset, N.Y.  

He is certified in internal medicine and cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the National Board of Echocardiography, and has experience working in community health in New York City and India.  

Dr. Akinyemi and Dr. Patel will see patients on alternating weeks beginning January 8 at UHS Delaware Valley Hospital in the hospital’s Ambulatory Services Department. Dr. Patel will be here January 8 and Dr. Akinyemi will begin January 15. For more information, or to make an appointment, call 865-2400.

Drs. Akinyemi and Patel will be replacing Dr. James O’Brien as he has been called back to UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital, on a full-time basis, due to the retirement of the facility’s other cardiologist.
