Nancy Lopez to return for UHS Golf Expo

The wit and wisdom of world-renowned golfer Nancy Lopez will be featured this summer when the UHS Golf Expo returns to Greater Binghamton for its third year.

As a kickoff to the Dick's Sporting Goods Open Golf Tournament, the UHS Orthopedics and Sports Medicine event will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at the En-Joie Golf Course in Endicott.

Women from across the community will be able to join Ms. Lopez for a free golf exposition, gaining invaluable tips on how to improve their golf games.

Many UHS exhibits will feature activities to help women stay physically fit at any age.

Also, providers and other clinical experts will be on hand to present information about orthopedics, sports medicine and women's health programs offered by UHS.

The event will start at 4:30 p.m., with Ms. Lopez's golf lecture beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Each attendee will receive a Dick's Sporting Goods gift card, and there will be giveaways, prize drawings and heart-healthy refreshments.

The event is free, but registration is required. To register, please call (607) 205-1500 or visit

"This will be a wonderful opportunity for women in our community to gain insights into lifelong fitness, while learning about helpful UHS services and enjoying a presentation by one of the greatest female golfers of all time," said Christina Boyd, vice president for Community Relations at UHS. "We're very proud to offer this event as a free program to our community."

With 48 LPGA Tour victories and three major championships to her credit, Ms. Lopez is a World Golf Hall of Fame member and one of the most celebrated women in the sport of professional golf today.

In 1978 she became the only LPGA Tour member to win Rookie of the Year, Player of the Year and the Vare Trophy in the same season.

In the decade following her Rookie of the Year designation, she amassed the 48 wins and their championships, and was named Player of the Year four times.

Today Ms. Lopez actively works to promote public awareness of many medical issues, such as arthritis and cardiovascular disease, which run in her family, and is a generous donor to cancer and heart disease research.

The Dick's Sporting Goods Open will be held from Aug. 25 to 30 at En-Joie.
