Fit Friday Tip from Stay Healthy Wellness Kids Program and the NYS Department of Health Childhood Obesity Grant

The best way to become healthier (and lose weight) isn’t by the latest fad diets, but by incorporating healthy habits into your everyday life. Start simple by expanding on things you already do well. Then begin to make a few small-easy to obtain changes one at a time. Eventually all the small changes will grow into a healthy lifestyle. Try it this way by taking your time and making changes that stick. You are setting yourself up for a lifetime of health! Remember losing weight (and becoming healthy) isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon.

Try to swap out 1 unhealthy snack and replace it with 1 healthy one. If making one swap on one day wasn’t too bad, try it again by making one change on two days, then three days, then four days... Keep it going!  Don’t be afraid to try new things like different fruits and vegetables. It might take 12- 15 tries before you like it (especially kids or picky eaters.) So don’t give up with one taste, try it again, and again.

Check out this link to “choose MyPlate.” It has some tips for parents on healthy snacking. These tips are great for everyday life, so even if you don’t have kids, check it out.

Here is a fun recipe to try as a healthy snack. This is also Rex and Roxy’s favorite snack, “Sushi Snack Bites”
