Michael Scholtz and Greg Hottinger became friends while working at the Duke University Diet and Fitness Center in the 1990s. With a strong desire to help people live more meaningful and fulfilling lives, including attaining mastery with weight loss and lifestyle change, they formed NOVO Wellness in 2001 (novo means “to begin anew” in Latin).

At NOVO Wellness change happens when we:
*Explore beyond our current patterns of thinking and comfortable patterns of living
*Listen to other people’s ideas and respect their ways of living
*Stay open to the notion that our behaviors and choices influence our health more than our circumstances
*Stay open to the idea that making changes can be uncomfortable and difficult and to push past that resistance
*Try new ideas and new ways of being that enhance the experience of life and well-being and we believe in greater possibilities…

We invite you to move beyond the idea that exercise is drudgery and that nutrition changes are only about giving up foods you enjoy.  We support you in expanding your vision to include all that is possible if you were a healthier, more fit, and more energetic version of yourself. What lifelong dreams might you pursue? Would you like to cycle across mountain passes or hike parts of the Appalachian Trail? What is possible if you truly felt great in your body?

What emerges is a healthier you because you CHOOSE to and not because you “have” to. Your approach becomes a whole person and whole community lifestyle that far exceeds a restrictive diet and exercise program. And you become more motivated and empowered instead of staying stuck and resisting change.
