2015 Tax Return Penalty for Not Purchasing Health Insurance

Starting in 2014, most people must have health insurance, or they will pay a penalty on their federal taxes.

The penalty for 2015 tax return is:

  • 2% of the household income, not including Social Security income, or
  • $325 for each adult, and $162.50 for each child, up to a maximum of $975 for a family.

If you're insured for part of the year, you'll have to pay 1/12th of the yearly penalty for each month that you're uninsured.

Any penalties you owe will be collected on your federal income tax return.

The UHS Advocates can help you obtain insurance coverage and reduce the penalty amount.
