UHS celebrates National Nurses Week

Note: Supported by the American Nurses' Association, National Nurses' Week celebrates nurses and their role in society. The week also helps to raise awareness about nursing as a possible career choice and to educate the public about the kind of work nurses are involved in. To coincide with Florence Nightingale's birthday, May 12, National Nurses' Week is observed from May 6 to 12 each year.

UHS Marks National Nurses Week

UHS kicks off the observance of National Nurses Week with many activities including:

UHS Hospitals - Nursing Assistants' Week is combined with Nurses' Week at UHS Hospitals to make one celebration recognizing the contributions of all nursing teams in providing excellence in care and service to patients. Selected nurses and support staff will be recognized with the eighth annual UHS Nursing Awards. Unit Councils and nurse managers will be making the selection of one licensed and one unlicensed staff member who exemplify either excellence in Patient Rounding & Bedside Shift Report, or in the provision of exceptional patient care in their work area. Special Nursing Celebration receptions will be held on May 5 at UHS Binghamton General and on May 7 at UHS Wilson. On May 6, a “Blessing of the Hands” ceremony will be held by UHS Hospitals chaplains who will be rounding on the units at both hospitals. This year, May 7 is officially Nurses' Day in the United States. On that day, the Professional Nurses' Association of South Central New York (formerly NYSNA District 5) will be hosting the 33nd annual Nurses' Day Breakfast, a celebration of the local nurse community..

UHS Chenango Memorial - A video celebrating and honoring nurses has been produced; watch for more information at the hospital.

UHS Delaware Valley - On May 6, there will be a "Blessing of the Hands" during the day. At 2 p.m., cake will be served and the winners of the Nurses' Week Awards will be announced.

UHS Senior Living at Ideal - On May 6, a nurses' tea will be held at 2 p.m. in the Residence Center Dining Room; on May 7, "Blessing of the Hands" for nursing staff at 1 p.m.; on May 8, root beer floats and popcorn from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Community Room.
