Senior Living fleece blanket project raises over one thousand dollars

Residents at UHS Senior Living at Chenango Memorial created a breast cancer awareness-themed tie-fleece blanket for a raffle that raised over $1030 to help local breast cancer patients.  A lucky ticket-holder from South New Berlin won the colorful blanket. The residents donated money from the raffle to Chenango Health Network for their fund designed to help local breast cancer patients. The fund provides gas cards for patient transportation and resources to help with co-pays.

Suzanne Martin, BSW, social worker at the facility, facilitated this project.  Ms. Martin thanked the community partners who sold the raffle tickets: co-workers at UHS Senior Living at Chenango Memorial, the hospital gift shop, Nice 'n Easy Grocery Shoppes and Big Blue's Convenience Stores, Blueox in Oxford and Bartle’s Pharmacy in Oxford Ms. Martin stated, “Our residents enjoy staying involved in activities that validate their connection to the community at large.  We provide many opportunities to keep them connected, and they always look forward to worthwhile local initiatives like this one.

The residents enjoyed updates about the funds being raised and eagerly awaited the drawing. All involved were thrilled with the amount raised, and we look forward to our next fundraising project, which is another blanket to be raffled to raise money for the residents’ holiday fund.”
