New orthopedic physician at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital practice


In response to increasing demand for orthopedic services, UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital announces a new orthopedic physician at UHS Orthopedics Norwich. Daniel M. Downs, MD, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, is now seeing patients at the newly renovated and expanded UHS Orthopedics Norwich office at 4 Newton Avenue.

According to Chris Kisacky, Vice President Operations, Dr. Downs is an experienced, board- certified orthopedic surgeon who has practiced in both solo and group practices in several parts of the country, and he is looking forward to practicing in the Norwich area. She stated that Dr. Anthony Cicoria and Melissa Tworkowsky, RPA-C, who have been on UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital’s medical staff for many years, are continuing to practice at their Court Street location and at the hospital. “Employing Dr. Downs adds to our capacity to serve the local orthopedic needs here at Chenango Memorial. Dr. Downs will enable our medical staff to serve more patients with the high quality orthopedic services local residents expect and deserve.”

Dr. Downs is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and Albany Medical College, where he completed a residency in Orthopedic Surgery. He also completed a fellowship in General Orthopedic Surgery at University of Iowa.

Dr. Downs is a general orthopedic surgeon with a special interest in sports medicine and joint replacement as well as foot and hand care, spine and pain management, joint revisions and trauma care. His fellowship training included pediatric orthopedics as well. He has practiced in New York State, Missouri and Kansas and comes to Norwich from a practice in Corinth, Mississippi. He said he and his wife are happy to be home in New York State, where they have family and own a farm. In addition, Dr. Downs stated, “I am looking forward to a close relationship with the surgeons here at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital and the orthopedic specialists throughout the UHS system.”
