UHS Women’s Health Center’s Dr. Phyllis White has returned from a three-month deployment in Kuwait.  Dr. White, who has worked in the health center since August of 2012, is a commissioned major in the NY Army National Guard and has been a member of the Guard for three years.  This was her first deployment.  When asked about her time in Kuwait, she stated, “It was quite an experience to take care of the soldiers and to see things outside what I normally do each day. It was a humbling experience and truly made me appreciate the things I do each day here at home.”  She continued, “I was excited to go, to serve, and to be taking care of the health care needs of US soldiers, and I am equally excited to be back here taking care of my patients at the Women’s Health Center.”

Dr. White served as the Battalion Aid Surgeon  of the 1-109th Infantry Regiment of the Pennsylvania National Guard while stationed at Camp Buehring, Kuwait.  She led a team of one Physician Assistant and six medics, tending to the everyday health care needs of the soldiers in the battalion.

Upon her return, Dr. White presented an American flag and certificate to the hospital’s administration, the maternity department and the Women’s Health Center. Each of the flags was flown over Camp Buehring, Kuwait on July 4, 2013.  Dr. White stated that these keepsakes are in appreciation for the support she received while she was deployed.  The hospital representatives expressed to Dr. White their pride in her service and their happiness that she has returned safely.

UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital is a member of UHS, a locally owned, not-for-profit, 916-bed hospital and health care system serving the Greater Binghamton region from more than 40 locations around New York’s Southern Tier.
