Financial Assistance

United Health Services is a not-for-profit healthcare provider whose mission is to serve the healthcare needs of its patients, whether or not they can pay for part or all essential care they receive. Patient financial advocates are available at all United Health Services hospitals to assist patients and provide assessments for eligibility under any state, federal or United Health Services financial assistance program.

If you have concerns about paying your hospital bills, we have a financial assistance program that helps patients determine if they might be eligible for help. How can I apply for financial assistance through United Health Services?
Your first step is to contact our patient financial assistance line (see telephone numbers below) for an initial intake evaluation. You’ll then be contacted by a patient financial advocate who will help you apply for any state programs for which you may be eligible, such as Medicaid, Child Health Plus, Family Health Plus or Healthy New York. If you’re denied or determined ineligible for these programs, we’ll help you apply for our program.

How do I find out if I’m eligible for full assistance, partial assistance or a discount?
To determine the level of assistance you may be eligible for, it’s necessary to complete a financial assistance application and to provide information that documents your income such as pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements and any other financial records that support your financial situation.

Will all my bills be eligible for financial assistance?
Some services at our facilities are provided by private physician groups, such as radiologists and anesthesiologists and aren’t covered by our program. Our financial assistance representatives will be happy to answer your questions regarding what our program covers.

How long will it take to determine if I’m eligible for financial assistance?
Eligibility will be determined within 30 days of receipt of your completed application.

What if I’m denied financial assistance?
You have the right to a formal appeal by our Financial Assistance Appeals Review Committee.

How long does an appeal decision take?
A decision will be made in 7 to 10 business days.

How will I know if I've been approved for assistance?
You’ll receive a written notification of approval or denial.

If I'm denied financial assistance may I pay my balance over an extended period of time?
United Health Services will work with you to establish a payment arrangement if you’re denied financial assistance.
